How to remove EXIF data
- Drop JPG, PNG or WebP photos into the box. You will see the hidden data each one contains, with the riskiest items in red.
- Press Remove metadata.
- Download the clean photos. They look exactly the same and are a little smaller.
What is EXIF and why remove it?
EXIF is information that a phone or camera writes into a photo: the device model, the date and time, settings, and often the exact GPS coordinates. When you send a photo as a file or publish it on a site that doesn’t clean it, anyone can read where you live or work.
Without quality loss
The tool doesn’t re-save the image. It cuts the metadata blocks out of the file and leaves the picture data untouched. The colour profile and the rotation are kept, so the photo looks the same as before.
Questions and answers
Which data is removed?
EXIF (including GPS, camera model, serial number and dates), XMP, IPTC, comments, the embedded preview, and extra data attached after the image, such as the video of a Motion Photo.
Does removing EXIF reduce quality?
No. The image itself is not re-encoded, so the quality stays exactly the same.
Do social networks remove EXIF?
Most large networks strip it from published photos, but messengers sending a photo “as a file”, email and file-sharing services usually keep it.
Why did my photo keep its rotation?
We keep one tiny field, the orientation, so that the photo isn’t shown sideways. It contains no personal information.
