Protect a PDF with a password

Set a password, and the document will open only for those who know it. Encryption happens in your browser, so neither the file nor the password is sent anywhere.

How to put a password on a PDF

    1. Drop one or more PDF files into the box, or tap choose files.
    2. Enter the password twice. If needed, forbid printing, copying text or editing.
    3. Press Protect PDF and Download the protected file.

The file is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest method supported by PDF. It opens in any PDF viewer after the password is entered: Adobe Reader, browsers, phones.

Store the password safely. There is no way to recover it: neither we nor anyone else can open the file without it.

Restrictions on printing and copying are respected by most viewers, but they are a request, not a lock: to really keep a document private, rely on the password to open it.

    Is my password sent anywhere?

How do I remove the password later?
Use Unlock PDF and enter the password.
