How to remove a password from a PDF

    1. Drop one or more PDF files into the box, or tap choose files. Next to each file you’ll see what kind of protection it has.
    2. If the file asks for a password to open, enter it. Files with only printing or copying restrictions don’t need one.
    3. Press Unlock PDF and Download the file.

A PDF can have two kinds of protection. A password to open encrypts the content: without it the file can’t be read, and you need to know it to remove it. Restrictions (no printing, no copying) don’t hide the content; they can be removed without a password.

Use this tool only for your own documents or documents you are allowed to open. The tool doesn’t guess or crack passwords.

    Frequently asked questions

Can you open a PDF if I forgot the password?
No. A password to open really encrypts the file, and the tool doesn’t try to guess it.
Why does my file open without a password but won’t print?
It has restrictions set by the author. They are removed here without a password.
    Is the password sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser on this device.
